Tapping trees for maple syrup

Locally tapped maple syrup is the bomb. Found at Nanette's Knitting shop in Wakefield, the Ironwood Northwinds co-op and gift shops, antique shops in town.
Here's a short video that inspired me to try it myself next season.

Fishing

We've been doing some fishing at Black River Harbor and the small mouth bass are biting (6/15). Few guests this week had luck on Powdermill Creek near Black River down the road from the lodge cooking up some some brook trout. Montreal River has a few spots for trout fishing nearby. $25 fishing license for 24-hours for out of state guests can be found at Holiday stations.

Salmon charters go out of Black River Harbor and Saxon Harbor.   Captain Dan McManman with Nomad Fishing is a great way to spend a day on the Big Lake

After meeting the Peterson family commercial fishing at Black River Harbor, I found this fun video. A nice, quick history of some of the family fishing tradition in the area.

Monks worth mentioning

Abby Cakes (raisin bread-ish) soaked in bourbon, jams, jellies. The Jampot and the monks who run it are a legend in the Keewenaw.   Located on Hwy 26 between Eagle Harbor and Eagle River, go see these guys - well worth it.

Misc.

Nanette's Knits - Alpaca farmed wool, local maple syrup, beeswax candles and locally grown goods in Wakefield (not located on a farm but has a farm)
